Contemporary cities are not only places where the basic needs of the local population and the inhabitants of surrounding rural areas are met, but they are also becoming important centres of socio-economic activation at local, regional, national and even global levels. As a place where various resources are concentrated, they play a key role in creating conditions and stimulating socio-economic development. This is particularly true for the Polish-Ukrainian cross-border area, which is characterised by a low level of urbanisation and economic development. The processes that take place in the main urban centres of the borderland reverberate throughout the Polish-Ukrainian cross-border area and become a factor that stimulates and dynamises its development. With this in mind, we would like to present you with the publication "Development of Cities in the Polish-Ukrainian Borderland in the 21st Century', prepared by the staff of the Statistical Office in Lublin.
